Foreword
This whole handbook, as well as the OOC Information part of it was made to make it easier for new people joining up as a guard to learn how to be a guard on Argent-Dawn. This handbook, as well as the information written here is of course not speaking for Argent-Dawn as a server community, however it is a good guideline for how to act when you are performing your duties as a Servant of the Crown. The OOC portion of this Handbook will have some valuable information on how to behave yourself, as well as any other useful information for RolePlaying in general!
If you have any feedback about the Handbook, or if you think it is missing something useful then please get in touch with Melrion Sunray through
E-Mail.
Reading through the OOC Information part is by all means not mandatory to be a member of Whiskey Company, there is however a lot of useful information here so giving it a quick read-through is recommended. If there is something you wonder about then most likely it has been written in this section.
However you may also ask an Officer of the guild if you have questions!

General RP situations/themes we do not partake in |
Dark/Mature Themed RP
Total RP3
- This is a required Addon to be a member of Whiskey Company
- You do not have to make a fully detailed profile or anything
- It is recommended to add the two fields; "Guild name" and "Guild rank" to your TRP Profile.
- This because our OOC guild name is "The Stormwínd Guard", adding "Whiskey Company" to this field will have that show as your guild/company in your small profile box when someone hovers over you
- It is also recommended to add your badge number in either your titles, or as a "First Glance"
- You do not have to add your rank as your title before your name, you are allowed to use other titles such as; Lady/Lord, Medic, Magister...And the likes
- Heavily recommended to also install Total RP 3: Extended for even more fun stuff!
GBRadio 3
- This is a required addon to be a member of Whiskey Company
- GBRadio 3 is an addon that allows IC radio communication between members through a device called a "buzzbox"
- It is meant as an addon to add more immersion to calling for backup instead of simply going on Discord or using Guild Chat, GBRadio 3 will send an emote whenever you send or receive a message
- We do however usually turn off the emote for receiving messages as it can become a bit spammy when we are multiple people in one spot, so please do that after installing the addon and adding our frequency
WIM (WoW Instant Messenger
- Whispers opens up their own popup window
- Also keeps the most recent chat history in the window when re-opening it
- Very useful for easier handling if you have to deal with multiple people whispering you at the same time
Elephant
- This is very useful when roleplaying as a guard as it keeps a log of your chat you can return to when writing a report or statement if not doing it while taking it
- It is heavily recommended to go to the settings of the Elephant addon and set it to the maximum amount of lines, as well as the maximum amount of copyable characters
- Do note that if your game crashes you will lose all logs from the moment you logged on until the crash, unfortunately this has something to do with how WoW saves logs
CrossRP
- Sometimes characters of the opposing faction may be used for events, this will let you read their profiles
- Cross RP allows for sharing of profiles between the factions
Listener
- Useful in large crowds, allowing you to focus on one person you are having a conversation with
- Also contains specific timestamps from when the latest message by the person was sent
We are welcoming to people having alts in the guild, however to make sure that the guild is not simply full of alts by the same few people there's a few limitations to this;
- Cadets must reach at least the rank of Junior Constable on their first character before they are allowed to bring in and alt.
- This is to prevent a person from having two characters at the rank of Cadet where they must split the time and have it take twice as long for them to reach the rank of Junior Constable.
- In total you are only allowed 2 (two) characters in the guild. Your main and one alt.
- Exceptions to this rule can be made for storyline/event related alts, however, speak with a guild Officer if you need an exception to this rule for your event.
- If a Junior Constable or higher rank wants to bring in an alt, they can join at the rank of Junior Constable if the character they are bringing in have enough In-Character military/guard, or other relevant experience.
Real life always comes before roleplay, however if you believe that you will be gone for a prolonged amount of time we strongly encourage you to make a message in our Discord server, in the #leave-of-absence channel so we know that you will be gone for some time.
This is especially important if you think you will be gone for more than 20 days. You do not have to write an in-depth reason as to why you must be on LOA, you can even leave it blank if it is very personal.
If you have not logged in for
20 days you will be contacted by a guild Officer via DMs on Discord to ask if you can logon. You will also be asked to make a message in #leave-of-absence if you think you will be gone for longer.
If you do not respond to this message or login to the game on your character(s) which have gone over
20 days, then after
30 days of inactivity you will be removed from the guild and your character will be
discharged.
Being on LOA will however give you an extended time for up to
2 months of inactivity before you get contacted again. If you by then think you won't be able to come on for even longer you will be removed from the guild and your character(s) will be
discharged.
You are however always welcome to join back up again once you pick up roleplaying once more!
In addition to random roleplay done by dealing with criminals and other things in Stormwind City, we as a guild also run events to keep our members engaged. Events can be anything from simple trainings, to more in-depth ones ran by a Dungeon Master.
The current schedule for training events is every
Saturday, in addition to this, on the
first Sunday of the month and the
third Sunday of the month we have a parade event. This is also where we do promotions, make announcements about what is to come, and sometimes about what has happened.
For parades we expect everyone to show up in full uniform. Check out the chapter about uniform in the IC part of the handbook for this.
There may be events happening outside of the scheduled times as well, an announcement will be made on Discord if this is the case.
Usual starting time for events is 20:30 Server Time! Check the announcement just to make sure, however.
Cadets, to be eligible to be promoted to
Junior Constable needs to show up to at least
3 (three) events. Keep in mind that training events, parades and DM'ed events all count towards this!
Events are planned in the Guild Calendar in-game, however on the day of the event there will also be 2-3 announcements made in the #announcement channel on Discord. It will tell you what the event is about and the time. The Whiskey Company role will be tagged for this so you get a notification.
If you cannot make it to an event, do not fret! Real life always comes first, of course we always appreciate a headsup about you not showing up, but it is not mandatory. Always take care of yourself IRL before you go into RP.
It is recommended to avoid OOC chatter in any of the public chat channels commonly used for RolePlay. In specific this includes /say, /emote, /yell and the likes.
Using these channels for OOC communication disrupts the flow of RP, and may also disturb other roleplayers in the vicinity leading to unnecessary hostility and drama between the guards and other people.
On top of that, the less the guards use these channels for OOC communication, the harder it is for us to end up in a situation where we argue with people over stupid things.
If you need to contact people to get consent for punishments or any other OOC stuff in regards to the current scene, you should either form a Party/Raid and speak in /party or /raid if there are multiple, or just whisper the person directly if you only need to communicate with a single person.
Basically. Keep all OOC chatter out of /say, /emote and /yell.
It is also recommended for guards not to use /yell in general, the only applicable times for you as a guard to /yell back to someone is if someone is yelling for help and you need to localize their current position to be able to aid them.
This is also a measure to make as little of a disturbance as possible for other roleplayers in the area. You should never respond to stupid yells about how the guard sucks or such however, there's absolutely no need to stoop down to their level, just ignore them IC,
not /ignore unless it is obvious trolling and move on with your day.
Be aware that causing unnecessary drama for the guild because of comments made OOC in public channels may end with warnings or even removal from the guild.
(See Rule 10 in #ooc-rules on Discord)
The "buzzbox", can also be called a radio, is what we a guards use to communicate with each other. At the moment we use the Addon GBRadio3 to do this.
You should never share our frequency with anyone outside of the guild without explicit written permission from a Guild Officer. It is preferable if this permission is given by the Guild Master, however any Officer can give permission under specific circumstances.
It should also not be given out willy-nilly, only in regards to specific storylines where someone has acquired it through either deception of a guard, or have stolen the buzzbox of a guard.
You
can add the buzzbox frequency to your non-guard alts, however be careful with the sort of responses you make as it can be considered meta-gaming.
If your character has a viable IC reasoning for keeping their buzzbox on and available when not on-duty however then that is okay, however again, be mindful so you do not meta-game.
You should NEVER respond to buzzbox messages when you are not on your guard character!
You can find the Whiskey Company Greylist in the #greylist channel on Discord. As a guild we have decided to use a Greylist where we make a recommendation that you should not interact with a specific individual or guild, as well as the reasoning as to why we make this recommendation.
Be aware that as a guild, we do
not want to impose restrictions on anyone's RolePlay experience and you may interact with, in both guard and non-guard capacity with a Greylisted individual or guild, just please be aware that other guards may choose to ignore said individual or guild.
Likewise, if you have chosen to ignore someone not on the Whiskey Company Greylist because you have had bad interactions with the individual or guild in the past you are welcome to do so, however make a note of it in Guild Chat so your fellow guards are aware of the situation and why you have chosen to leave the encounter.
We use
Soft Grey and
Hard Grey for our Greylist. Whereas
Soft Grey means you are recommended not to deal with an individual or guild as a guard, while
Hard Grey means you are recommended to avoid the individual or guild in any sort of interaction.
Other Guard Guilds, Solo Guards & Military Guilds
We strive to keep a positive roleplaying community on Argent-Dawn and will always do our best to work with any other guard guild currently active on the server.
Our general rule is that the first guard guild on the scene is in charge, we will always ask them if they want any help in investigating the crime, keeping a perimeter, medical aid or all of the sorts. If the other guard guild does not need our help then we simply leave them be and go on with our own business.
This rule also extends to any guard who might not be a member of a guard guild, but are doing it as a solo guard because they prefer it that way. Do your best to communicate with them about the incident, share information and treat them as if they were a member of Whiskey Company.
You are allowed to ask for aid from a military themed guild if you are alone on-duty, however be aware that any guild not inherently being played as a
Stormwind City Guard guild does not have any actual legal authority.
If you ever have any issues with members of another guard guild butting into your case, acting like they own everything and ignoring everything you do, please notify a guild Officer so we can get in touch with the Officers of that guard/military guild and sort it out.
In-Character, you should also take ranks and names for everyone there and make a report or guard log about the situation, so our Officers are also IC aware of it.
General RP situations/themes we do not partake in
Rape & Sexual Assault RP
Because of the harmful nature of these themes, and because World of Warcraft is a 12+ game where people who are not yet of legal age may partake in public RolePlay, these themes are
not acceptable to deal with as a member of Whiskey Company.
These things would of course be illegal by law, however we as a guard guild will
not deal with it in RP. If someone comes up to us wanting to report these kinds of crime, please kindly inform them through whispers OOC that we will not partake in that kind of RP.
Underage Characters
As guards we will not deal with crimes committed by, or upon characters whom are underage, this being under the age of
18 (Eighteen).
If someone reports a crime which has been done by an underage character, please contact the person reporting the crime via whispers OOC that we will not be partaking in the RP involving the underage character.
OOC Characters and those without TRP
In general, if a player is marked as OOC they should be ignored. However if you see them writing emotes and the likes, whisper them OOC just to verify they have simply not forgotten to change their status back to IC.
Players without a TRP Profile doing "crimes" are more than often trolls. However if they are brand new to RP and really wish to learn you should whisper them OOC and tell them to install TRP3.
In addition, ignore obvious troll characters that uses the literal names of real life people or fictional characters from other IPs. Any character that uses names such as; Harrison Ford, Luke Skywalker, Emperor Akihito, John Biden ...etc, should be ignored.
Lore Characters
We will not acknowledge or partake in RP with people playing as named lore characters of Warcraft. This also counts for any person that plays a character that is some sort of relative to a named lore character.
We will, as a guild, also generally not acknowledge people of the playing as members of the House of Nobles or High Command, think ranks of Marshal, Field Marshal and Grand Marshal, unless they are a part of a storyline/event.
As a note, currently the lawbook in use by us, The Stormwind Law, is IC being written by the Ministry of Justice, this is a Kingdom of Stormwind Ministry guild ran by Officers of Whiskey Company. Court Minister/Noble characters from the Ministry of Justice guild are acknowledged by Whiskey Company.
Lore-Breaking Characters/Concepts
We will in general not acknowledge characters or concepts that are in direct violation with the current Warcraft lore. Depending on the concept however there may be leeway by letting individual members deal with them by their own, the same way we allow for people to deal with individuals and guilds on our Greylist.
However be aware that because these concepts are breaking the lore of Warcraft, you may end up not receiving aid from other members of the guild. If your interaction with a lore-breaking character or concept also puts the guild in a bad light then you may be asked to please refrain from doing so in the future.
In specific if dealing with a lore-breaking character or concept ends up with arguments OOC with either the person playing the character, or other individuals whom are third parties to the interaction.
An exception to these is if the player behind the character agrees to the consequences that their character is an illegal species, or a member of a proscribed organisation within Stormwind City and takes the punishment that is meant to be given.
Most of the time this will mean exile, and as a guard guild will
under no circumstances ever force death upon someone's character without their OOC consent.
Contact the person via whisper OOC to confirm that they accept the consequences before engaging if you are unsure.
If the player does not OOC consent to either exile or execution of their illegal character, then please inform them in a kind manner that we will not interact with them in guard capacity and wish them a nice day further.
Gore/Torture Themes
Not everyone are comfortable with these kinds of themes and it must be respected at all times. Heavy gore, dismemberment, torture and such things should
always be kept in private. For these kinds of things it is preferred if the involved parties makes a Party or a Raid and make their emotes in /party or /raid chat.
In general we as a guard guild should also do our best to not reach this level of interaction during an encounter, and we are prohibited as guards to torture someone.
Make sure that every player involved in these things, if they reach that stage, consent to such themes OOC, and again keep it private as to not disturb uninvolved third parties trying to RP not too far away from you.
Explicit/Erotic RolePlay (ERP) Themes
World of Warcraft is a PG12 game, you should under no circumstances be attempting to ERP in common ERP hubs such as Goldshire or the Stormwind Harbor Overlook on your guard character.
What you do in private on you guard character, or on a non-guard character with another consenting person is up to you, and none of our business, however keep the following in mind.
Simple as; Avoid Goldshire like the plague. When you do patrols you can also choose to not walk through the Stormwind Harbor Overlook.
